Obergurgl Guide Hire
Obergurgl Resort Guide
Obergurgl is an Austrian village in the Otztal Alps. Located at the end of the Otz Valley Obergurgl lies at 1930m close the smaller area of Hochgurgl which is slightly higher at 2150m to the South west of Innsbruck. Due to the height of it’s ski slopes (some over 3000m), it consistently has good snow cover during the season. The village itself is centred around a church which is then surrounded by a number of predominantly luxury hotels and an ice rink. There is skiing for all abilities in Obergurgl with beginners preferring to stay around the Gaisberg or Mahdstuhl lifts where the terrain is more forgiving. More advanced skiers head towards Festkogl above Obergurgl or the Schermerspitze run above Hochgurgl which has a number of steep sections. If you see yourself as more of an expert, know the area and don’t need to hire a ski guide, the steep black Hoher Mut run or the Ferwalltal descents above Obergurgl are more testing. Above Hochgurgl there are also moguls on the top-Wurmkogl II slope.
Mountain guiding in Obergurgl
If you decide that you wish to explore the extensive off piste but either don’t have the confidence or ability to navigate the area, then hiring a mountain guide in Obergurgl is very sensible. Qualified guides have extensive knowledge of the local terrain, avalanche conditions and weather forecasts to ensure you have a safe day out skiing or climbing.
There are a number of short ski tours which can be undertaken guided or unguided in the Hochgurgl – Obergurgl region. Ski touring or ski mountaineering as it is also known usually takes place in the latter stages of the season when the snow has stabilised, crevasses have been filled in and searching for powder stashes becomes more important. The tours in this region include the Vorderen Wurmkogel, Kirchenkarhut and the more advanced Kirchenkarkogel.
If you wish to hire a guide then look through the mountain guide profiles above and drop those that suit your requirements a message. If there aren’t any currently available then contact the Obergurgl guide bureau or tourist board for more assistance.
