Mountain guiding in Mayrhofen
Although Mayrhofen isn’t famed for it’s off piste, hiring a ski guide will open up a number of areas to venture to or ski tour to. Heading up to the top of the Horberg Peak will open up the steep face underneath the Tux 150 lift, which is testing for experienced off piste skiers and should only be attempted when the avalanche risk is low (2/5 or lower) so hire a ski guide if you are in any doubt. Other off piste areas include both sides of the Unterbergalm, from the top of the Horbergjoch to access the Horbergtal Valley and off the backside off the Schneekar lift down to the terrain park (good way of finishing the day).
There are a number of ski tours in the Mayrhofen area for which you can ski independently if you have the necessary ability or hire a private guide for. These include: Grüblspitze, Rastkogel and Kreuzjoch. Information is limited on the tours but information may be found in a Mayrhofen guide book or by contacting a local mountain guide.
