An IFMGA mountain guide is a guide who currently holds the IFMGA qualification enabling them to guide ski, climbing and mountaineering trips worldwide on all types of terrain including the high mountains and glaciated regions.
All British Mountain Guides (members of the BMG association) who have completed and past the intensive training are IFMGA qualified and have been trained to the highest standard to be able to safely lead groups into the mountains.
The British IFMGA mountain guide training can be broken into three phases:
1. The induction phase
2. The UK elements of the training
3. The alpine elements of the training
The training programme is made up of 107 assessment days and generally it takes 3 years to complete presuming you meet the pre-requirements before applying to undertake the programme.
